New classroom friends!

After gardening the other day, Trajan and Oswells mom brought us some catepillars to watch as they go through the stages of becoming a butterfly!! Today we voted on names for the catepillars and we'd like to introduce you to "Transformer" and "Choppy"!!!!

Leave it to kindergarteners to come up with names like these :)

  • Homework starts next week. Get excited!!! I hope everyone is practicing their sight words at home!!!

We have one room mom signed up to help out this year. Thank you to Elaina's mom!!! If there is any other mom that would be willing to take on room mom with her this year, it would be greatly appreciated and lots of help. Basically the room moms will work together to coordinate with parents during any celebrations or special activities that we have going on in the room. If you are interested, please email me!

Word work

Today was the second day of introducing word work in daily five. Word work is so much fun and helps us really learn our important sight words!!!

Kinder "garden"

Today we ventured out to the garden and the boys and girls got to plant vegetables with help from Oswell and Trajan's mom! We planted lettuce, Kale, radishes and lots more! We can't wait to take care of our little piece of the garden and watch it grow!

Student Leaders in math!

Some of our friends were student leaders in math today. They showed examples of the lesson taught today to their peers. (today we started talking about more and less)

They asked each other great questions and answered with their "smart brains"

After they showed a few examples on the Elmo, the students were then sent out to work on the same activity with their math partners.

Our classroom rug got delivered today!!!

Letter Sounds

Letter Sounds

GoNoodle is great for brain breaks. You will need to set up and account but it's quick, easy and free!

Fun math Friday!!!!

Some Fridays are great days for a lesson and then some fun review games of the lessons taught throughout the week! Today the boys and girls played some of their favorite math games to help them review our week of talking about counting and recognizing numbers. They played Spider Bingo (which is a great game to help recognize numbers), Candy Land (which works on one to one correspondence), roll and cover and roll and build (which also work on counting and number recognition). Fun math Friday is SO much fun!

A collage of numbers and letters

We have been introduced to so many numbers and letters since the start of school. We wanted to incorporate a fun day of finger painting, so we chose some of our favorite letters and numbers and turned them into a collage! What a fun activity!!!

Math Partners, Math Talk and Math games....oh my!

Check out some of our classroom friends working together during math. Today we worked in partners and played a math game that helped us with writing our numbers, showing a visual representation of that number and subitizing with the dice! We also started working on math talk as you will hear in this video. Students are working on being able to "agree or disagree" with their partners work and then be able to explain their reasoning as to why they agree or disagree. I sure am proud of this group of Kindergarteners who are really showing their math smarts!

Writer's Workshop

Today to practice labeling, we labeled our friend, Owen. It was very silly and fun, but a great way to visualize how to label something. We then practiced labeling our pictures in writer's workshop. If we don't know how to spell the whole word right now, we are just writing the first sound (letter) that we hear. Check out some of the great work below!

Math is fun!

Today in math we talked about what it should look like and sound like when we are working with our math partners. The boys and girls were then introduced to a type of "Math Talk" that we will be using in the classroom, "do you agree or disagree and why?"  We played a math game and implemented the new math talk and they did great. If I can figure out how to upload a few videos, I will post them on here!
