Welcome back!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful, restful and enjoyable break! I am excited to start the second part of our year! We will be starting the year off with a bang! Our mid year assessments will be going on this month, so be sure your child is getting plenty of rest at home because school is going to be very busy for them!
What’s going on this month with academics?!
Reading: We will continue to work on retelling with stories we read to ourselves and stories we share as a whole group. When we retell a story we focus on; Who are the characters? What is the setting? What are the major events? We will also be working on CVC, CCVC and CVCC words. While we read we will be working on inferring, summarizing, learning about informational text and making predictions.
We will also continue to work on learning our sight words. Our words for this month are:
Week of:
January 5th:  for, have
January 12th: went, he
January 19th: will, they
January 26th: yes, run

Writing: In writing we will continue to work on writing true events. We will continue to work on spelling words to the best of our ability, using our sight words, spacing between our words, using punctuation. We will begin to learn how to write “How to” writings
Math:  In math we are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes!
Science: We begin our unit on weather! This is a very fun unit!

          Dates to remember this month
Month of January: Mid year assessments
January 19- No school
January 20- Teacher Workday
January 27- Report cards!
*** Please remember to keep your kiddos home if they are not feeling well. The flu is still around and we don’t want any more of our friends out sick!***

If your child has not learned how to tie their shoes, they really need to practice!
