Kindness Week is next week!!!

Douglas will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge next week (Jan. 27-Jan. 31).  This is a movement that many other schools in the nation are participating in.  In this challenge, students are encouraged to do as many kind acts as possible during the week.  If a student wishes to participate, they can pick up a challenge check off list outside of my door next week.  There are 2 check lists, (one for K/1st and another for 2-5).  If you would like to participate as a class, please let me know and I'll print out a classroom set for you.  At the end of the week, a participating student can turn in their challenge checklist in to me (or you if you want) for a dragon dollar.
In addition to the challenge, we'll have a couple other activities going on during recess or before school.  We'll also be dedicating a "buddy bench" to the playground next week sometime.  More on that later.  On Friday, 1/31 we will be having a spirit day - Hats On to Kindness.  Students and staff can wear any kind of hat they want to school that day.

Thanks!

One of our third grade classes is Collecting Coats! Please see info below:

Hi everyone,
My class and especially one of my awesome students have begun a Winter Wear Drive.  We are collecting used but clean gloves, coats, and scarves and new hats (yikes lice).  Please bring all donations to either my classroom or the box outside of Mrs. Williams's office.  Marco Torres is my student who had this great idea! Please help us get the word out via newsletters, blogs, and email blasts to your families.  Donations will benefit our own school community first and then we plan to donate the rest to surrounding programs such as InterAct, a domestic violence shelter in Wake County that provides emergency housing to mothers and their children.
Thank you! Stay warm!
