Kindergarten does Kandinsky

In class we talked about the musician and artist, Wassily Kandinsky.  We looked at a few of his paintings and discussed the different shapes in them:  circle, square, triangle, and rectangle.  As a class we talked about what abstract art is and our emotions associated with color.  During the painting process we listened to classical music to set the mood of our emotions to help us concentrate on using our fingers to paint mathematical shapes.

Check out the beautiful work the boys and girls have created!

The field trip to the farmer's market was SO much fun! Stay tuned for more pictures :)

What has been going on in room 3143?

We have been working on our 5 senses in science!

We learned all about the sense of touch!

We did a collaboration with our science teacher. We did handprints that are rough and smooth.

Mrs. Williams, our school counselor, came to our class to talk to us about sharing!

"Whirled" Peace Day at school. The boys and girls made windmills and displayed them in front of our school.

Raising Money for childhood cancer research!

On Saturday, Dr. Spivey and Mr. Bulloch (our second grade book buddies teacher) met at the Hibernian in downtown Raleigh to shave their heads for St. Baldrick's! It was lots of fun to watch and the turn out from Douglas was great! Way to go you two! We are proud to have you represent Douglas!

Our how to blow a bubble bulletin board!

Can you blow a bubble?

Blowing Bubbles!

To help us understand First, Next and Last in Writer's Workshop, we did a bubble gum activity. I gave each child a piece of bubble gum. We talked about all the things we needed to do BEFORE we blow our bubble. What happens first? What happens next? What happens last??? We chewed our gum and practiced, then we wrote our stories about how to blow a bubble.

We had LOTS of fun! *****Please excuse all the little mouths and their gum smacking in the background (a lot of our friends were chewing it for the first or second time and it was sticky gum!). Guess that's another lesson for another day :)

Dental Health Day!

We learned all about how to keep our teeth clean, thanks to Mrs. Jaspers a dental hygenist!

We listened to stories and practiced brushing our teeth!
