Thanks to our room mom Mrs. Watson, we celebrated thanksgiving the way Charlie Brown and his friends did, with jelly beans, toast, popcorn and pretzels! Thank you so much! We had a blast!

It's a short week this week!
Since this week is the week of Thanksgiving, I would like to say how thankful I am to get to work with such a fun and dynamic group of students. They come to school eager to learn with smiles on their faces. They try their best, they work hard and they love each other as family. Thank you for sharing your child with me each and every day. I'm such a blessed teacher and am thankful for the opportunity to educate and enjoy your child. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Sight words for the year
In case you have lost or misplaced the sight word schedule, here it is again!
The Kindergarten Team expects that you practice your child’s sight words daily.
Sight words are frequently used and repeated in text. Young children are
encouraged to memorize them in order to allow them to concentrate more on
less familiar words while reading as well as the text's meaning. They are critical
to your child’s reading success!

New week, new opportunities to learn and grow!
What's up this week in room 3143?
Literacy- We will be meeting new letterland friends this week. We will also begin to talk about syllables. We will be learning to count, produce, blend and segment syllables in spoken words.
We will also continue to work on asking and answering questions about text that we read in class and of course we are ALWAYS practicing our sight words. I hope the boys and girls are practicing them at home as well! In order to be the best readers possible, we need to know our sight words!
Writing- We will be working more on making sure our sight words are spelled correctly and phonetically spelling our other words. We will be talking about capitalization and punctuation in our stories.
Math- This week we will be working on the -1 pattern. For example, you have 3 dogs, one dog ran away. How many dogs do you have now? We will also be digging in to our teen numbers. We are working on multiple strategies to solve our problems and continuing to work on our math talk to make sure we truly understand why and how we get our answers.
Science- We are wrapping up our unit on 5 senses. Our next unit will be all about weather!
Social Studies- We are talking about wants and needs. We will be talking more this week about what it means to "need" something and what it means to "want" something.
Things we need in our classroom:
- old magazines that we can use to cut out pictures of wants and needs
- treasure box items (stickers, fast food happy meal toys, erasers, dollar store items
Don't forget, NO SCHOOL on Tuesday. We will be observing Veteran's day.
Some Healthy Tips for this week:
- Make sure your child is going to bed early and getting plenty of sleep
- Make sure your child gets a nutritious breakfast that will hold them over until lunch.
- I hope the boys and girls are getting at least 30 minutes of play when they get home. Burning off energy is good for our brains :)

What’s going on this week?!
Literacy- We are working on Phonemic Awareness. We are working on
hearing the beginning sounds and using our roller coaster arms to break apart
words (C-A-T, cat), we are working on discussing the author and illustrator and
continuing to work on our Daily 5 components.
Writer’s Workshop- We are working on writing true stories
about events that happen in our lives. In order to be good writers we make sure
we think, we draw, we label, we write and we go back and add details.
Math- We are working on learning the +1 pattern. For example: You
have 3. You add 1 more. How many do you have now? How do you know you have that
many?
Science- We are wrapping up our 5 senses unit.
Social Studies- We will begin talking about wants and
needs.
